Voted the 10th Best Guitarist in Brazil (Roadie Crew Readers’ Poll – 2014 & 2020)

“Remember the generation of virtuosic guitarists launched by Shrapnel Records? Now imagine an album released in 2019 that takes you back to the era that revealed to the world names like Paul Gilbert, Vinnie Moore, Tony MacAlpine, Joey Tafolla, Richie Kotzen, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, and many others. You don’t have to imagine—just listen to Scream of Insanity, the debut solo work by Edu Megale from Minas Gerais, which revives that era with ‘a sound that recalls the ‘80s shredders, full of fast and consistent melodies".

- Daniel Dutra - Roadie Crew

Born in Belo Horizonte, Edu Megale began studying guitar at the age of 17 and has never stopped since. Fascinated by Iron Maiden and Adrian Smith’s solos, he later discovered his greatest inspiration: guitarist Jason Becker. From then on, he embarked on a musical journey, practicing for many hours each day. Along the way, he studied under several teachers—such as Mozart Mello, Edu Ardanuy, Celso Moreira, Matt Warnock, Luis Felipe Sousa, and Marcão, among others—who shaped his playing style. He studied harmony, improvisation, classical guitar, jazz, and fusion.

In 2009, at 19 years old, Edu recorded Fog of Madness, his first album with the band Nickel. The following year, he was accepted into the Classical Guitar program at CEFAR (Centro de Formação Artística), where he further refined his technique with a focus on classical music.

In 2011, he joined the band RAM on several tracks from the album Orange Orgio Orbis, which won awards for Best Music Video by an Independent Band and Best Compilation in Minas Gerais. During that time, he toured extensively across Brazil, performing at major events. He was also invited to create soundtracks and effects for the games Inbio Assault and Ninjas Attack.

In 2012, he recorded with the band Cadio and had the opportunity to perform with American jazz singer Holly Holmes and Canadian guitarist Matt Warnock, who became one of his main mentors in the music scene.

In the following year, he joined forces with Guilherme de Alvarenga for the solo project D.A.M., which brought an innovative musical approach and allowed for significant technical and sonic growth. In 2014, Edu shifted his focus toward the music business, completing dozens of courses in entrepreneurship, music education, negotiation, business planning, and marketing. Soon after, he began delivering lectures on music education at one of the most prestigious colleges in the field.

With D.A.M.’s growing international recognition, the band was featured in hundreds of reviews worldwide—including Japan’s prestigious Burrn! magazine—which drew the attention of the Japanese label Stay Gold Records, with whom they signed a multi-year deal. During this period, Edu recorded guitar tracks for the EPs Phantasmagoria (2014) and Premonitions (2016), as well as the full-length album The Awakening (2014). His performance on Premonitions earned him a spot among the top 10 national guitarists in Roadie Crew's 2014 readers' poll.

This phase of Edu’s career was marked by the fulfillment of many dreams. He was invited to a jam session with one of his biggest idols, Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big), and shared the stage with renowned guitarists like Edu Ardanuy (Sinistra, ex-Dr. Sin). In 2015, alongside his D.A.M. bandmates, he led several workshops and released the video for Reborn from the Shadows. That same year, he had the honor of playing with the legendary Steve Vai and, in November, went on tour with D.A.M. through Argentina. Back in Brazil, he performed at a show by Ricardo Confessori (Shaman, ex-Angra) in Belo Horizonte.

In 2020, he released his first solo EP, Scream of Insanity, which ranked 17th among the best albums of the year according to Roadie Crew readers. He also returned to the list of Brazil’s top 10 guitarists (2014 and 2020). That same year, he released the EP Let’s Go with the band Loss, and the video for Burn Inside aired on national TV. In March 2021, the band planned to release its second video, Até Quando, featuring rapper Roger Deff.

In 2021, Edu joined the legendary thrash metal band The Mist, contributing to the recording of the EP The Circle of the Crow, produced by guitarist Alan Wallace (Eminence, No Life on Earth).

The following year, he returned to the studio with D.A.M. to record the final album of the group’s trilogy, which has yet to be released.

In 2023, after a season living in Portugal, Edu returned to Brazil and rejoined The Mist.

In 2024, he performed a series of shows with the band, which is now preparing for the release of a new album and music video in 2025.
